Come Join the Wagon Train! Eric Houghton's monumental Pioneer Songs makes its orchestral debut. Don't miss this historic event: 15 symphonic songs for soloists, orchestra, chorus and narrator, depicting the first successful wagon trains to California in the early 1840's. The Westminster Community Orchestra, Ruth Ochs, conductor, joins the Westminster Community Chorus and Pennsbury Chamber Choir, James Moyer, director for the performance. Soloists will be Westminster Choir College performance majors Kathee Zenn, soprano, Miranda Lammers Smith, mezzo, Jacob Keleman, tenor and Michael Wisnosky, bass/baritone. Nancy Froysland-Hoerl will narrate the late Robert Marquis original book. The original 1993 piano debut was featured on Ted Otten's WWFM show, with an interview with Eric and the lyricist Robert Marquis. So much has happened since. It would be great to be on the radio again to discuss the "rebirth" of the Pioneer Songs.
