Airing on the second Sunday and Wednesday of each month, Piano Excursions celebrates the broadest range of jazz piano, hosted by Jed Distler, the Classical Network's Artist-in-Resident, and host of the 2017 ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award winning program Between the Keys.
"Although my career is focused on composing and performing contemporary classical music," says Distler, "I started out as a jazz pianist, and I have long been immersed in jazz piano's amazing scope and breadth of styles. On Piano Excursions, I always try to feature an eclectic mix of artists, from familiar names to pianists that deserve greater recognition."
Tonight's show features multiple recorded versions of Johnny Green's time-honored classic jazz standard "Body and Soul." Pianists include Billy Taylor, Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum, Bill Evans Tete Montoliu, George Cables, Teddy Wilson, Eddie Higgins, Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner, Dick Hyman, Erroll Garner, and Jed Distler himself.
Listen to Piano Excursions tonight, Sunday May 13th from 8:00 to 10:00 PM, with a rebroadcast Wednesday May 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, streaming live at JazzOn2.org.
